Botanical Vodka

In a spirits market that has seen gin steamroller everything before it at a rate that feels like we're heading back to the early 18th century and the notorious William Hogarth image of Gin Lane, surprisingly few consumers realise that gin is essentially vodka infused with juniper - and a blend of other ingredients, chosen to make every distillers offerings different. But the highly aromatic and flavoursome juniper berry isn't to everyone's taste and many people simply cannot get past the effect that this pungent ingredient brings to their drink. To get around this, many distillers have added large quantities of sweeteners, flavourings and aromatic additives, or just dialled down the juniper to the point that it's just not noticeable and we would question whether it is gin at all...

Belgin feel that it's better to be clear from the outset about what's in the bottle, not just calling something a gin because it has a tenuous connection to the dictionary definition of 'a clear alcoholic spirit distilled from grain or malt and flavoured with juniper berries' . If you love making long drinks to cool down with in the summer, or want something that adds a new dimension to your cocktail bar and pairs beautifully with a wide range of  mixers, an ultra-pure vodka that's infused with botanical's might make Zwarte Peper the perfect choice.

Peppercorns grow around the world, from the central and southern regions of Indian and Sri Lanka, down through Asia and across the Pacific to Mexico and South America, but many of these varieties are one-dimensional and are processed into the black and white pepper spices that we use every day to season food. Research has shown that those with the broadest flavour spectrum come from the Caribbean, which is where the wonderfully aromatic black peppercorns that go into Belgin Zwarte Peper (Black Pepper) are sourced.

Specially chosen for their unique characteristics and flavours that include cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg, these little flavour bombs were chosen by the same master distiller that creates the incredible 50 botanical Belgin St. Cruyt gin. Delicately distilled into a spirit of the very highest quality and cut to the perfect sipping strength of 40% using pure soft water, you can be reassured that he has used his knowledge and experience to bring you an extraordinary drinking sensation.

Zwarte Peper vodka is extremely versatile and can be poured over ice, straight from the fridge or freezer and garnished with fresh strawberries or a slice of pineapple for a great alternative to a martini. You can use it to boost a classic Bloody Mary to a whole new level, make a stunning variation on a Margarita or a whole host of other cocktails that would typically use a quality Tequila. It also pairs beautifully with many of the new wave of artisan tonic waters, and for the foodies out there, it adds a delicious extra dimension if you drizzle a little over your favourite smoked fish.
